Relevance: The strategies used to combat global health problems take many forms and have varying levels of success. These strategies may be developed and/or implemented by local communities, national and international or private organisations.

This assessment provides an opportunity for you to evaluate the effectiveness of a strategy in a Low Middle-Income Country (LMIC) and compare it to a similar strategy in Australia.

Task Instructions:

Choose one topic from the following topics. Write a 2000-word report on your chosen topic.

Health Promotion

Select one health promotion strategy from the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Ottawa Charter, evaluate the impact and effectiveness of this strategy in one LMIC. Compare with a similar strategy implemented in Australia, focusing on development, implementation, and effectiveness.

Health Equity

Evaluate a health equity strategy implemented in one Low- or Middle-Income Country (LMIC) and compare with a similar strategy in Australia. Throughout your report analyse the relationship between health equity and wealth, discussing how this relationship impacts on Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

The following components should be included in your report:

  1. Title page: include your topic, name, student ID, unit code and total word count
  2. Table of contents: list the subheadings and page numbers
  3. Report structure
  4. Introduction (100-150 words): briefly introduce the topic and report aims
  5. Background (200 words): briefly discuss the health topic and its impact within your chosen LMIC; define key terms.
  6. Strategy review and evaluation (800 words): identify the strategy, explore its development and implementation and assess its effectiveness.
  7. Comparison to Australia (600 words): compare the strategy and effectiveness between your LMIC and Australia
  8. Recommendations (250 words): recommend evidence-based actions to address the global health issue, drawing on insights from the report.
  9. Conclusion (150 words): restate the topic’s significance and summarise the key findings.
  10. Reference List – use CDU APA7th reference guide, sources within the last 10 years

Suggested procedure

  1. Review the unit learning materials and lecture/tutorial content.
  2. Select a global health topic and conduct research to support the preparation of your written report.
  3. Make notes on the health topic, the dedicated organisation/government body, and the organisation/government body’s strategy to address the topic
  4. Use the template above to plan and draft your report. Suggested content and word counts are provided. Use tables and graphs where appropriate and ensure these are referenced.
  5. Use the Library search page and/or databases to locate appropriate journal articles. Read the abstracts and skim the articles to evaluate whether they are suitable for your topic.
  6. Integrate citations where appropriate to demonstrate your understanding of evidence-based practice and professional practice. You do this by summarising, generalising, paraphrasing and quoting.
