1) What is the most courageous interpersonal action you have ever taken in your life?

(coming to the rescue of another person being bullied, having a difficult conversation with a parent, having to hold a friend accountable, speaking to a coworker who is cheating the employer, etc.).

2) What values do you live by? Are these rooted in a religion or not? Do you practice the same values in all aspects of your life (with your parent(s), with your friends, in class, at work, etc.). List three areas where there are conflicts in your values and how you currently resolve them (or not)?

(don’t want to hurt a girl/boyfriend’s feelings but need to have an honest conversation, want to do your best in school and don’t want to cheat, etc.).

3) A Tale of Two Stories – Recall a time in your life or work experience when your values conflicted with what you were expected to do regarding a particular, nontrivial decision, and you spoke up and acted to try to resolve the conflict in a way that was consistent with your values. After describing the situation briefly, consider and answer the following four questions:

A. What did you do and what was the impact?

B. Why motivated you to speak up and act?

C. How satisfied are you? How would you like to have responded? (This question is not about rejecting or defending past actions but rather about imagining your ideal scenario.)

D. What would have made it easier for you to speak and act?

• Things within your control?

• Things within the control of others?

Secondly, recall a time in your life or work experience when your values conflicted with what you were expected to do regarding a particular, nontrivial decision, and you did NOT speak up and act to try to resolve the conflict in a way that was consistent with your values. After describing the situation briefly, consider and answer the following four questions:

A. What happened?

B. Why didn’t you speak up and act? What would have motivated you to do so?

C. How satisfied are you? How would you like to have responded? (Again, this question is not about rejecting or defending past actions but rather about imagining your ideal scenario.)

D. What would have made it easier for you to speak and act?

• Things within your control?

• Things within the control of others?

4) Personal Mission Development. Write ¾ to one page documenting the development of your personal mission and personal mission statement. https://www.livecareer.com/resources/careers/planning/creating-personal-mission-statements

a. Identify Past Successes (discuss three or four examples of where you have had personal success in recent years), determine your core values, identify your contributions (to the world in general, your family, your employer/future employer, friends, community), discuss 3-5 goals, and finally incorporate those items into a personal mission statement.

5) Ethics and Values Allowed to Slide. Write one page discussing what ethics and values do you need to recover that you have already allowed to slide – not being honest with a romantic partner, cheating an employer out of time, services, or product, cheating at school, etc.
