DQ3 (2) & Discussion 3
1. How does the community health nurse recognize bias, stereotypes, and implicit bias within the community? How should the nurse address these concepts to ensure health promotion activities are culturally competent? Propose strategies that you can employ to reduce cultural dissonance and bias to deliver culturally competent care. Include an evidence-based article that address the cultural issue. Cite and reference the article in APA format.
2. Americans are said to die younger than people living in most other developed country’s and many critics blame our health system and the lack of universal health coverage as the reasons. But as health care professionals, we know that life expectancy is not dependent on just medical care. Consider this: America has a higher rate of deaths from accidents and homicides than any other developed country.
Violence related deaths by country:
New Zealand 53
All these country’s combined have less than 2700 violence-related deaths annually compared to the US who has over 21,000 annually. Violence related deaths (which has nothing to do with health care) are almost always young people, and statistics involves grouping all ages of deaths into a statistical mean. So, if you group lots of young deaths that have nothing to do with health care with other deaths related to health care, what does that do to our statistics for ranking life expectancy? Please explain your answer in at least 150 with one peer-reviewed reference.
Note: use at least one peer review citation and reference on each questions.
