The patterns include empirics, the science of nursing; esthetics, the art of nursing; component of personal knowledge in nursing and ethics, the component of moral knowledge in nursing. This pattern is often referred to as a systematic approach to knowledge in nursing. Esthetics is described as the art of nursing. This pattern of knowing is more expressive rather than descriptive or systematic. (Cody W, 2013) Esthetic pattern is seen as the knowledge behind the manual and technical skills of nursing. Next, components of personal knowledge in nursing which is considered as interpersonal processes involving interactions, relationships and transactions between the nurse and the patient-client. (Cody W, 2013) Though this pattern is described as the most difficult to master or teach but it also is essential in understanding the meaning of health and individual well-being (Cody W, 2013). Last, ethics refers to doing morally right and wrong action in connection with the care and treatment of illness and promotion of health. (Cody W, 2013) Nurses are faced with ethical decisions with care in treatment of patients. Understanding each pattern is critical in mastering the discipline of nursing. Advance practice nursing involves becoming proficient in teaching and learning all aspects of the discipline of nursing.
