Property Crime Action Plan Presentation

Background:

As the newly appointed chief of police, it has been brought to your attention that citizens and merchants are upset by the recent increase in property crimes, both in the downtown shopping area and in private communities. Residents are afraid to shop after dark, which has impacted the local economy. Several cars have been targeted in local parking areas. Residents are also concerned with burglary rates in the city. Community members are
requesting an open community meeting.

Your Assignment:

As the chief of police, you are to devise an action plan to address the concerns of both residents and merchants. You are to create a PowerPoint slide show that you will present at the community meeting. The PowerPoint presentation should be at least seven slides in length, contain graphics, speaking notes (in the note section at the bottom of the slide), and at least two academic resources. In-text citations should be listed in the speaking notes section on each slide.

The PowerPoint Presentation should be formatted as follows.

  • Cover slide with the title of the presentation (1 slide)
  • Introduction explaining the purpose of the presentation (1 slide)
  • Address the downtown shopping area: (1–2 slides)
  • Applying the concepts of situational crime prevention, what two changes will you, the chief of police, make to the downtown shopping area to reduce property crimes?
  • Explain why you chose these two options.

  • Discuss how residential burglars set their targets.
  • Applying the concepts of situational crime prevention, provide at least three strategies community members can implement themselves to reduce burglaries.
  • Explain the benefit of the strategies.
