Social Organization: Conflict Resolution in the Workplace
Conflict resolution is one of the most important skills that managers and supervisors must develop in the workplace. Professional mediators are trained to mediate conflicts in the workplace, divorce and child custody cases, tenant-landlord cases, healthcare, environmental disputes etc (if interested in a career as mediator, please check out the KSU Master’s in Conflict Management). This discussion post encourages you to reflect on the skills of workplace mediators. Based on the simulation below, please discuss: 1. What is the root of the conflict in this case? What are the positions and interests that both parties have? 2. What are the stages of the mediation process? 3. What skills did the mediator demonstrate in this case? 4. Which theories/ concepts from Ch. 8 can be applied to this case?
Based on Ch. 9, please write a short (half page) organizational analysis of the Carlsberg Case Study. At the end of the course, please try to use/ apply at least 10 concepts and theories learned this semester from all the chapters (please use bold letters to highlight them in the text). Please try to be original in your answer and try not to use the same concepts/ theories as your colleagues, if possible.
